As we release our Year in Focus e-book highlighting the best photography from 2014, we ask our experts across the business for their personal selection from the year.

Getty Images Head of Entertainment for EMEA , Christine Pettinger has chosen her top pictures for 2014 and tells us why these moments stand out:

Caption: Shia LaBeouf attends the ‘Nymphomaniac Volume I (long version)’ premiere during 64th Berlinale International Film Festival at Berlinale Palast on February 9, 2014 in Berlin, Germany.

When Shia LaBeouf arrived on the red carpet that night, all media thought this was a joke. He arrived on foot, when usually the cast arrives in limousines. Some people started to recognize him because his behavior had already been bizarre at the press conference. It did of course, turn out to be him, and this was a statement of his desire to retire from public life after admitting he had copied a story for a short film from another author. At the same time, his behavior raised questions around media attention and red carpet appearances such as; what is ‘famous’ and who is famous and for what?

This was a moment the photographer took advantage of – the model was ready to walk the carpet and he captured her blue eyes contrasting with the green eye-liner and the yellow tissue of dress.

Equipped with a GoPro camera on his back, this little guy was the surprise attraction at some London Fashion Week Shows. Arriving in a limousine, he became a star himself.

Caption: Heidi Klum and Vito Schnabel attend amfAR’s 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on May 22, 2014 in Cap d’Antibes, France.

Heidi Klum and Vito Schnabel were already dating for a couple of months when this picture was taken, but no official picture of them kissing existed. Our photographer got access to the amfAR Gala and spotted them sitting at a table. She knew Heidi and asked her kindly if she would agree to do a ‘kiss picture,’ which she declined. It was a matter of time and some intimate conversations between Heidi and Vito until they looked at our photographer to make sure she was giving them attention, and then they kissed – for this one picture.

Caption: Arnold Schwarzenegger conducts the Orchestra in the Schuetzen-Festzelt (Shooting tent) during Oktoberfest at Theresienwiese on September 22, 2014 in Munich, Germany.

Octoberfest is the beer festival in Munich. Besides the beer, it is a tradition to dress in the national costume and enjoy the atmosphere in the different tents. Each tent has a little orchestra and it is tradition that people can go up and conduct the orchestra – by paying a little fee. Arnold Schwarzenegger, known for his ability to conduct people, enjoyed standing up on his table and giving the tempo to the orchestra.

Caption: Actress Tilda Swinton is photographed for Self Assignment during the 64th edition of Berlin film festival on February 9, 2014 in Berlin, Germany.

This picture was done in a fraction of a second. Tilda Swinton was stood backstage in a packed theatre, waiting to go on stage with her co-stars, when our photographer asked her to pose for a quick picture. She chose the area in the basement of the venue and chose the light she wanted to be shot in.

The coolest dog in town! At festivals, we often ask PR companies to have portrait sessions with their talent. When we asked for access to the talent from this movie, we did not expect to shoot a dog. But he was just amazing, and this picture is truly my favorite portrait picture of 2014.

Caption: Actress Marion Cotillard is pictured during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2014 in Cannes, France.

I often ask our photographers to come up with ideas that are different and give their work a new dimension. Vittorio has chosen to do ‘The Mirror Project’ – portraits overlapping, so the person seems to look at you twice or at themselves. It is not easy to do and often it does not work out as you think it should. In this case with Marion Cotillard, it is a beautiful image.

This image is part of our alternative view coverage. We try to find different angles at each event we cover. Fashion is a very inspiring environment – the shapes, the colors, the dresses, the models – all brought together in this simple, revealing but also blurring shot. It makes you aware of how fast paced fashion is – what can be so important momentarily is gone again so quickly.

Actors Ryan Reynolds (L) and Blake Lively attend the ‘Captives’ premiere during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2014 in Cannes, France.

Pascal is a master in the art of shooting red carpet images, and this is another example of a beautiful shot. On top of the technical perfection, this is one of the hottest couples of the year. Married and now pregnant, they will be in all media also next year.

> on September 28, 2014 in Venice, Italy.

THE big love story of 2014. What nobody expected happened: George Clooney finally got on his knees and married a woman! She is stunning and their wedding was a big media bash. We look forward to many more beautiful images.
