Each week our pictures make front covers of magazines and newspapers around the globe. In this series, we ask the photographers for the story behind their leading shots.
The Princess Grace Foundation Gala is one of the most important events on the Prince Albert II of Monaco’s agenda. I cover it for Getty Images every year. The exclusive access I have been given by the foundation over the years allows me to provide complete coverage of the event.
This year’s event was particularly special because it was for the first time held in the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel in Los Angeles. One of the guests of honor, Princess Charlene of Monaco is also expecting, which made the event even more special and memorable.
The above headshot of Princess Charlene of Monaco was taken at the beginning of the dinner. Table shots are always a challenging moment for a photographer, as the setting is extremely dark with lots of people around so the opportunity to capture a nice moment is very limited. The key was to get the Princess’s attention since she’s usually conversing with her fellow companions but in this shot, I was lucky enough to make eye contact and get a beautiful smile.
